Automated visual inspection

The quality inspection of complex cast parts is often still carried out by means of a manual visual inspection in the production process. The test quality is subjective and not constant, test results are often not or incorrectly documented. These sources of error can be avoided by an automatic quality check, which can deliver objective, reproducible and documented results.

The 3D-FLEXINSPECTOR (Fig. 1;  Laempe Mössner Sinto GmbH) was specially developed for use in the quality control of complex castings. The system realizes nearly complete surface measurement through fastest data acquisition, capturing millions of 3D measurement points per second, and is designed for 100% in-line inspection in production.

Within the tolerance bands you define, the 3D-FLEXINSPECTOR detects quality-related defects such as cold shots, parting line defects, blockages through core breakage, fins, sand inclusions, damage due to incorrect handling and more. It measures gaps, diameters, height distances and other geometric data. It identifies and stores relief inscriptions and more.

Fields of Application:

  • Automatic visual inspection of complex castings, e.g. Cylinder heads and crankcases
  • Surface inspection of gearboxes, brake discs and cylinder liners
  • Inspection of safety-relevant chassis parts such as semi-trailing arm and swivel bearing
