Bed coke

Bed coke is used for filling the space between furnace bottom and the melting zone and for supporting the batch column located above the melting zone (cupola furnace).

Bed coke must be filled in as far as the border of the lower melting zone facing the tuyeres; in this lower melting zone coke split is burnt and the iron starts to melt.
