Chip briquet

Compression molding produced by (cold or hot) molding of metal chips for use in refineries or directly in the melting furnace of the foundry.

The primary purpose of briquetting is a reduction in volume. The pressed light metal takes up significantly less space. Another advantage arises during wet treatment of aluminum. In addition to the reduction in volume, the user can also recover the cooling lubricant bonded in the chip volume. Wet aluminumchips can contain up to 25 weight percent of cooling lubricant. A chip mass of 100 tons aluminum with a liquid content of 15%, for example, contains 15,000 liters of cooling lubricant. Gray cast ironchips are also suitable for briquetting. These compression moldings achieve a density of 5.6 to 6.5g/cm3 and can be melted in cupola furnaces.
