Compressive stress test device

Device used for mold sand testing to determine the compressive stresses generated in green sand under the effect of casting heat.

A standardized specimen compacted by means of three driving strokes (s. VDG instruction sheet P 38) is subjected to an acetyl flame in the compressive test device. The compressive stresses occurring in within the test specimen are measured in the form of pneumatic pressure changes and recorded by electronic instruments. When the pressure reaches its maximum limit, the test is completed.

The ratio between compressive stress and wet tensile strength determines what is referred to as tendency towards defects (s. a. Mold sand testing).
