Core print

Structure for correct alignment of a core in the casting mold.

The pattern is equipped with the appertaining core print patterns and corresponding core locations are incorporated at the ingots to ensure precisely fitting insertion of cores. At times core prints are provided with asymmetrical design or equipped with unilateral reinforcements to prevent the core from twisting or falling out when closing the mold.

Moreover, core prints have a significant positive effect on diffusion of core gasses occurring during casting; for this reason, core locations in the mold are equipped with appropriately dimensioned venting channels(s. Core venting).

The core prints at the core and the pattern must be precisely aligned (s. Core print clearance) to prevent the occurrence of gaps into which the liquid metal could enter during casting and produce unnecessary burr.
