Drum resistance

Quality characteristics for coke, in particular for foundry coke; used to assess its behavior with regard to mechanical load.

According to the VDG bulletin R 80, drum resistance is the grain share in weight percent which remains on a certain reference sieve as residue derived from coke subjected to 100 rotations in a drum. The hole diameter of the reference sieve for M 80 specifications is 80mm. Before being treated in the drum, the coke samples must be sieved on a test sieve with a hole diameter which is below the lower grade limit of the coke to be tested.

According to the VDG bulletin R 80, German foundry coke is classified in eight grades from A to H with different drum resistances.
