Foundry pig iron

Collective name to pig iron type for melting machines (cupolas, induction furnaces, light arc furnace and rotary furnaces) to produce die casting materials.

Foundry pig iron is different from hematite pig iron due to its higher phosphor content and is subdivided into standard types with e medium silicon content of 2 to 3 % and into special tapes with a Si contents of 1.5 to 2 % and 3 to 3.5 percent. Standard types are generally used as basic material of cupola burding to produce high-quality gray cast iron. Foundry pig irons can also be supplied with a lower phosphor content (0.10 to 0.50 percent of P) and are described as semi-hematite.

Leading suppliers of pig iron types are Rio Tinto Iron & Titanium GmbH, DK Recycling und Roheisen GmbH, Richard Anton KG and ASK Chemicals Metallurgy GmbH.
