Gross density

(apparent density, bulk density)

Quotient of mass m and volume V including the pore gaps of solid matter. The mathematic correlation according to Eq.1 is:

Eq. 1:

Thus, gross density refers to the total volume of porous grain-like materials. The opposite of Gross density is True density. The true density and gross density of non-porous parts is equal.

The quotient of gross density and true density is porosity (relative density). The gross density of bulk materials is also referred to as bulk density.
