Hardness

Resistance of a solid substance to mechanical or dynamic intrusion of a harder body (s. a. Hardness test, Scale of hardness).

In addition to the toughness, strength, ductility, and stiffness, the hardness is one of the most important material properties. Hardness and strength must not be confused. Strenght represents the resistance of a material to deformation and separation.
