Hook

General means for load suspension in crane units.

For foundry cranes laminated hooks are preferably used. These are composed of a specified amount of equal hook plates arranged in a row and laminated to one another. This prevents premature breakage which may occur due to the effects of radiating heat. The entire hook is designed so that upon breakage of one plate the residual plates are capable of bearing the full load. Moreover, air gaps are provided between the indificual plates to limit the detrimental effects of heat.

Hooks are standardized in DIN EN 1677 “Components for slings - Safety" and  DIN EN 13 155 “Cranes - Safety - Non-fixed load lifting attachments".
