Immersion bell

Bell-shaped or pear-shaped body made of graphite or refractory mass which is mounted to a pole and emerged into liquid metal in order to add melt treatment agents (e.g. magnesium master alloy) or alloy additives.

The immersion bell is provided with perforations to allow for the quick discharge of treatment agents. The actual treatment agent is appropriately fixated in the immersion bell. Immersion bells are used if the melt treatment agent would float when adding it to the melt.
