Inoculant

FeSi-based alloy for treating cast-iron melts in order to improve the balance of nuclei and reduce chilling propensity.

There are numerous special inoculants available for the individual cast-iron materials that partly contain barium, cerium, lanthanum, strontium, titanium, aluminum and zirconium fractions, some of which are represented in Table 1 (ASK Chemicals Metallurgy GmbH). The effect of the individual inoculation alloys is not only determined by their composition but, to a significant extent, also by the way in which they are added at the relevant temperature of the liquid iron and the oxygen content present.
