Lining

Refractory coating for melting and casting equipment which is essentially available as a basic, acidic or neutral lining.

Primarily, dry masses are used that are pre-mixed with sintering agents and ready to use without requiring prior mixing.

Basic lining
Coating of furnaces, ladles, casting vessels and the like with refractories (ramming masses, bricks: see Magnesite mass, Magnesia brick) which mainly consist of basic metal oxides such as magnesite, chrome-magnesite, magnesite-chrome (see Magnesia-chrome brick), chromite, dolomite or forsterite or limestone. They contain approx. 88% MgO, up to 10% Al2O3 and approx. 2% SiO2.

Basic masses have a normal application temperature of 1650°C, with a maximum temperature load of 1800°C being possible for short durations.

Acidic lining
Coating of furnaces, ladles, casting vessels and the like with refractories (ramming masses, bricks) which mainly consist of acidic oxides such as quartzite (SiO2) or quartz sand.

Acidic masses contain approx. 98.5% SiO2 and their application temperatures are usually around 1600°C, while a maximum of 1700°C can be achieved over short durations.

Neutral lining
Coating of furnaces, ladles, casting vessels and the like with refractories which are neither basic nor acidic, i.e. with a basicity or acidity = 1.0. Neutral masses contain approx. 84.5% Al2O3 and up to 13% MgO.

For neutral masses, the normal application temperature is 1650°C and may rise to a maximum of 1750°C for short durations.
