Long-term inoculant

Inoculants for molten cast iron which maintain the inoculating effect for a longer period; they are less subjected to the fading effect of conventional inoculants.

Thus the nucleation state obtained by inoculation can be maintained over longer periods of quieting and at higher temperatures. Long-term inoculants contain approx. 45 to 55% of silicon, approx. 10% of carbon and other elements effective for inoculation. These inoculants are usually protected by patent and are added in amounts of 0.1 to 0.3% depending on furnace type, melting process, oxygen supply and the required mechanical properties of the material.
