Mold material management

Controls the composition and therefore the properties of bentonite-bound mold material systems.

The significance of mold material management is due to the lack of suitable measurement methods which can be used to measure used sand in its composition online and therefore determine the resulting properties after the latest preparation process (s. Sand conditioning). Depending on the conditioning behavior of the mold material (casting process which took place previously), the used sand has very variable properties which must be made uniform through recipes in the mixer.

In current practice, four processes have formed in which a uniform composition of the conditioned mold material is achieved through control of the recipe. They differ mainly in the degree of automation of the determination of the recipe (s. Mold material control).
