Monocrystal

Crystalline body with crystal axes evenly distributed and oriented across the entire body. Therefore, a monocrystal does not emerge from coalescence of numerous, differently oriented crystal grains. It is possible to grow monocrystals with the required crystal orientation by means of various methods (s. Crystal growth process) and are used for various technical applications, e.g. in semi-conductor engineering.
