Orange peel effect

Casting defect, usually at the surface of a casting, the affected surface resembling an orange peel.

This defect mainly occurs with synthetic resin-bonded mold materials, especially when applying the No-bake process. To avoid this, additives should be added to the mold material. Partly replacing the quartz sand with zircon sand, olivin or chromite sands was also able to prevent this defect.
