Pig iron

Serves as charge material for production of cast iron and steel and is produced from iron ore in a furnace. Its main component is iron and it also contains carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphor, sulfur and traces of other elements.

Pig iron is derived and produced from clean ores in very uniform composition particularly adapted to the requirements of foundry application. The most important types of pig iron include foundry pig iron, hematite pig iron, spiegel iron and special pig iron.
