The measured values ofreactance and electrical resistance can be illustrated for the refractory lining of melting channels in channel induction furnaces.

If the minimum values of both alternating current variables are defined and compared, any changes in the condition of the melting channel can be observed. Thus it is possible to monitor the condition of the inductor and to see when it is time to replace the inductor of a channel induction furnace.
