Sodium bentonite

Pure, natural Na bentonites have a Na ion deposition coat on the clay surface predefined by mineral formation and are relatively rare. Large deposits are known in the USA, North Africa, and Russia. The frequently occurring and mineable calcium bentonite is activated which leads to a significant increase of its swelling capacity and thus its bonding capacity (s. Calcium bentonite).
