Friction condition in which to objects are positioned on top of one another or in contact with each other without moving relative to one another (v = 0).

The magnitude of adhesive friction depends on the characteristics of the contact surfaces and the force with which the objects act upon one another. The softer of the two bodies undergoes shear on the inside.
