Tightness

Tightness is defined as the impermeability of a casting to the penetration or discharge of liquids or gases.

The

tightness is a relative term, as there are no absolutely tight

castings. The demand for tightness is therefore always related to

particular gases or liquids and the respective operating temperatures,

operating pressures and environmental conditions. Whether a casting

meets the respective requirements can be determined using a leak test.
