SinterCast AB

SinterCast AB reported a new quarterly record for series production of compacted graphite iron during Q2 2022 – 3.6 million “engine equivalents,” or 72,000 kilograms (each engine equivalent being 50 kg of CGI.) The previous record of 70,000 kilograms was set during Q3 of 2019.

Stockholm-based SinterCast noted that Q2 2022 benefitted from high output at its Tupy’s foundries in Brazil and Mexico, and the production ramp-up at Scania’s new foundry at Södertälje, Sweden.

Compacted graphite iron (CGI) is a lightweight cast iron that offers greater tensile strength, stiffness, and fatigue strength than gray iron or aluminum. The series production of CGI mainly involves diesel and gas engine manufacturers seeking to reduce weight, noise, and emissions for their designs. SinterCast licenses the most widely used process control package for foundries producing CGI.
