Yield strength ratio

Quotient (eq. 1) of 0.2 % yield strength (Rp0.2) and tensile strength (Rm):

Eq. 1

It indicates to which extent materials may be subjected to elastic stress. Comparing the yield strength ratio of steel (Rp0.2/Rm = 50 to 52 %) and nodular graphite cast iron (Rp0.2/Rm = 63 to 64 %) clearly shows that GJS may be subjected to higher stress at similar tensile strength; thus better use can be made of this material in the component.
